ARENAL VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK

 

At this hike along the trails of Arenal National Park we will enter into the tropical forest and areas which were once devastated by the fury of the volcano. During the hike, it is possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna characteristic of the area while you walk through the lava slides of 1992.

While in the park it is possible to see in clear days you will have the magnificent view of the impressive Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Lagoon and the Chato Hill.

Our nature Guide will provide important and interesting information about the main characteristics of the volcano, active since 1968 and many more important details of everything you will encounter alongside the trail walk.

As an added attraction you can purchase an entrance to the different Hot spring waters you might like. We will drop you there after the tour, so you can relax and we’ll pick you up a couple of hours later to take you back to your hotel.

 

What you’ll need to bring: Hiking shoes or sneakers, comfortable clothing, raincoat, repellent, bathing suit and towel (in the case of those going to the hot water springs)

CAÑO NEGRO WILDLIFE REFUGE

 

To get to the Cano Negro Refuge, we will go through a great part of the San Carlos plains enjoying the beautiful scenery of the side of the road, a great variety of fields with different products, such as: sugar cane, legumes, fruit and vegetables. Besides the broad areas for cattle breeding.  

Upon arrival to Cano Negro, we will board a boat that will take us through the Canals of the river “Rio Frio” and its beautiful scenery. Thousands of animals inhabit the borders of the river and you shall enjoy seeing monkeys, sloth, caimans, turtles, bats and a great variety of birds.

This is one of Costa Rica’s refuges where the greatest diversity of flora and fauna can be observed.  

You will have a very nice experience when we stop by the side of the river for some tasty coffee break surrounded by nature.

There is no doubt that Cano Negro is incredibly exotic and that with this tour you will have great unforgettable memories indeed.

During the months of February, March and April many species of migratory birds visit the refuge which is awesome for those who love bird watching; this is a tour one cannot skip.

RIO CELESTE HIKE

 

This is one of the most amazing places of Costa Rica, without a doubt. Magnificent turquoise blue waters together with all the nature that surrounds it make of Rio Celeste a place to admire.

Located at the skirts of the Tenorio Volcano, this river, unique in the country, astounds its visitors with its beauty. A circuit trail of 4 miles starting from “El Pilon” National Park Station, will take us along the forest, going through places of interest as are the “Teñideros” or dyers, which is the places where the river acquires this different color because of a chemical reaction.  Besides that , we will visit “Las Ollas” which are fumaroles filled with mud and we will also go to a hot water spring.    

Further ahead we will find a waterfall of turquoise color which is the climax of our visit. On our way back we will keep walking along the river side while enjoying the bubbling water and its natural surroundings.

Adventure hike & Twilight Night Activity

This is an adventure activity as we will go through streams, mud and waterfalls.  We’ll hike to the spring that supplies crystal clear drinking water for the surrounding area and at the end we’ll enjoy a delicious campesino lunch.  

During the cultural portion you’ll learn how our ancestors used medicinal plants (there are over 500 medicinal plant species in Costa Rica).  

For the nocturnal portion of the tour we’ll visit a gallery forest (forest found next to rivers or wetlands) where we’ll have the chance to see up to 22 species of amphibians, two and three toed sloths, caimans, spiders and many other nocturnal creatures.

Costa Rican Agriculture and Farm Tour

This is an agricultural activity on which you learning Costa Rican farming techniques and farming’s economic impact on the country. We’ll see pineapple, bananas, yucca, papaya, chocolate, coffee and much more. A delicious pleasant lunch is also included.
